Non-Immigrant visas

Non-Immigrant visa for Thailand: find the right category

Work, family, study or retirement: each Non-Immigrant category has its own rules. We help you choose the right one, prepare the application and keep extensions and reports on track.

Quick answer

A Non-Immigrant visa is Thailand's long-stay visa family. The B visa covers work and business, the O visa covers family, marriage and some retirement cases, the ED visa covers study, and O-A and O-X are long-stay retirement options. Your purpose of stay decides the category.

Choosing the wrong Non-Immigrant category is an expensive mistake. Each one has different supporting documents, sponsors and financial requirements, and the visa you receive shapes what you may do in Thailand afterwards.

We start with your situation, not with a form. After a free pre-check you know which category fits, what it will cost in total and how long it realistically takes. We then prepare the application and look after extensions and 90-day reports.

This is for you if

  • You plan to live, work, study or retire in Thailand for more than a short holiday.
  • You are married to a Thai citizen, or your parents or children live here.
  • You have a job offer or a company in Thailand.
  • You want one team to handle the visa, extensions and reporting.

This may not fit if

  • You only need a short holiday stay. A tourist visa or visa exemption is simpler.
  • You are a remote worker without a Thai employer. Check the DTV visa first.

The main Non-Immigrant categories

  • B visa (work and business): for people with a job offer or business activity in Thailand. It works together with a work permit. See B visa.
  • O visa (family and marriage): for spouses, parents or children of Thai nationals and some other family situations. See O visa.
  • ED visa (education): for study at a recognised Thai school or university. See ED visa.
  • O-A and O-X (retirement): long-stay options for retirees who meet the age, financial and insurance conditions. See retirement visa.

What stays the same in every category

Non-Immigrant stays come with ongoing obligations: you keep your documents valid, extend your stay on time and file the 90-day report while you remain in Thailand. A good application is only half the work. We help with the second half too.

Applying from abroad or inside Thailand

Most Non-Immigrant visas are issued by a Thai embassy or consulate. In some cases a status can be changed or extended inside Thailand. Which route works for you depends on your nationality, your current stay and your purpose. We tell you in the pre-check and avoid routes that lead to rejection.

Typical documents

The list depends on the category. These are the documents most applications need:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Passport photos in the required format
  • Proof of the purpose of stay (employment, marriage, enrolment or retirement documents)
  • Proof of funds or income where the category requires it
  • Health or insurance documents for retirement categories
  • Translations or legalisations where requested
  • Completed application forms

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing a category by price instead of by purpose.
  • Submitting financial documents that are not recent or not in the right form.
  • Forgetting that the visa is only the beginning: extensions and reports follow.
  • Working on a visa that does not allow it.

Frequently asked questions

Which Non-Immigrant visa is right for me?

It depends on your purpose: work and business (B), family and marriage (O), study (ED) or retirement (O-A, O-X). Our free pre-check recommends one.

Can I work on any Non-Immigrant visa?

No. Working in Thailand needs the right visa and a work permit. We explain what each category allows.

Is 90-day reporting included?

Yes, we handle reminders and online or in-person filings with Thai Immigration.

How long is a Non-Immigrant visa valid?

The initial validity and the permitted stay depend on the category and the issuing office. Stays are usually extended in yearly steps.
