Thailand Tourist Visa (TR and METV) with a Phuket team behind you

Planning a longer stay than visa exemption allows? We check your documents, prepare your e-Visa or consulate application and guide you through entry and extensions.

Quick answer

A Thailand tourist visa lets you visit for leisure for about 60 days per entry, with a single-entry (TR) or multiple-entry (METV) option, and can often be extended once at a Thai immigration office. You apply before travelling, usually through the e-Visa portal or a Thai embassy or consulate.

Many travellers arrive on a visa exemption, but that stay is short and cannot always be stretched. A tourist visa is the clean option when you want more time for a holiday, to visit family, to explore the country slowly or to spend the winter in Phuket without worrying about border dates.

Our Phuket office reviews your documents before you submit anything. That is where most tourist visa applications go wrong: a bank statement that is too old, an itinerary that does not match the dates, a photo in the wrong format. We find those problems early, so you do not lose time or fees.

This is for you if

  • You want to stay longer than a visa-exempt entry allows.
  • You plan several trips in and out of Thailand and want a multiple-entry option (METV).
  • You are visiting family or friends and want a clear, legal stay period.
  • You want help with the e-Visa upload instead of fighting the form on your own.

This may not fit if

  • You plan to work or run a business in Thailand. That needs a Non-Immigrant B visa and a work permit.
  • You want to stay more than a year. Look at the DTV, LTR or retirement visa instead.
  • You are already in Thailand and need more time. A tourist visa must be applied for abroad; see Visa Extension.

TR or METV: which tourist visa do you need?

The Tourist Visa (TR) is a single-entry visa for one trip. The Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) stays valid for several months and allows several entries, each with its own permitted stay. If you travel in and out of Thailand or the region, METV usually saves money and paperwork. If you come once, TR is simpler.

Which option you can get depends on your nationality and the embassy or consulate that handles your application. We confirm this in the pre-check before you pay for anything.

Extending your stay in Phuket

If you need more time after you arrive, a tourist stay can usually be extended once for 30 days at a Thai immigration office, subject to the rules of the day. Apply before your permitted stay ends. Our visa extension service prepares the paperwork and handles submission so you avoid queues and fines.

Insurance and proof of funds

Travel insurance is strongly recommended and, depending on the embassy or consulate, sometimes mandatory. Proof of funds and accommodation are normally part of the application. Exact amounts and formats vary, which is why we check them against the current requirements of your embassy.

Documents for a tourist visa application

Exact requirements depend on the embassy or the e-Visa portal. This is the usual list we prepare with you:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months with blank pages
  • Recent passport photo in the required format
  • Proof of funds, such as a recent bank statement
  • Travel itinerary or flight booking for Thailand
  • Accommodation booking confirmation in Thailand
  • Travel insurance (recommended, sometimes required)
  • Completed application form or e-Visa profile

What affects your quote

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying with a bank statement that is too old or too thin.
  • Booking flights that do not match the dates on the application.
  • Submitting the photo in the wrong size or with a background that gets rejected.
  • Assuming a tourist visa can be turned into a work visa inside Thailand.
  • Leaving the extension too late and running into overstay fines.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extend my stay on a tourist visa?

Yes. In most cases a tourist stay can be extended once for 30 days at a Thai immigration office. We prepare the extension and handle submission in Phuket.

Do I need travel insurance?

Insurance is strongly recommended and sometimes mandatory, depending on the Thai embassy or consulate you apply through. We check this in your pre-check.

Does the METV really allow multiple entries?

Yes. A multiple-entry tourist visa allows several entries during its validity period, each with its own permitted stay. The details depend on the issuing embassy.

Can I apply for a tourist visa from inside Thailand?

Not normally. Tourist visas are issued abroad. If you are already here and need more time, an extension or another long-stay option is usually the right route.

How long does the application take?

It depends on the embassy or portal, typically from a few business days to about two weeks. We tell you the expected time after reviewing your documents.

What happens if my application is rejected?

We review the reason with you and advise whether to re-apply, correct documents or choose another route. This is another reason we check everything before submission.
